Grandpa’s Favorite Family Biscuits
These buttery, flaky biscuits are the kind that disappear fast at family gatherings—so don’t be surprised if everyone asks for seconds!
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cubed
¾ cup cold buttermilk
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
Cut the cold butter into the flour using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch-thick rectangle.
Fold the dough in half 3–4 times to create flaky layers, then pat it back to 1 inch thick.
Cut with a 2½-inch biscuit cutter, pressing straight down without twisting.
