Salt Water Strawberry Wash
If you soaked strawberries in salt water and saw tiny white larvae emerge, they were most likely insect larvae that were already present in or on some of the berries. The salt water didn’t create them—it simply encouraged them to come out.
Here’s a simple way to clean fresh strawberries before eating.
Ingredients
4 cups cold water
1 teaspoon table salt
Fresh strawberries
Instructions
Fill a large bowl with the cold water.
Stir in the salt until it dissolves.
Add the strawberries and soak for 5–10 minutes.
Gently swirl the berries in the water.
Drain the strawberries.
Rinse thoroughly under cool running water to remove any salt.
Pat dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
Refrigerate or enjoy immediately.
