Microwaving onions is a quick way to soften them and bring out their natural sweetness. While it won’t create the deep browning or

caramelization you get from stovetop cooking, it can produce tender, flavorful onions in just a few minutes.

Quick Microwave Onions

Ingredients

2 medium onions

1–2 tablespoons butter or olive oil

Salt and black pepper

Optional: garlic powder, thyme, parsley, or paprika

Instructions

Peel and slice the onions into thin rings or half-moons.

Place them in a microwave-safe bowl.

Add the butter or olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat.

Cover the bowl with a microwave-safe lid or plate, leaving a small vent for steam.

Microwave on High for 4–6 minutes, stirring halfway through.

If the onions aren’t fully tender, continue cooking in 30-second intervals until they reach your preferred texture.
