Slow Cooker Cabbage Wedges with Butter, Onion & Bacon

This simple slow cooker recipe transforms humble cabbage into a tender, flavorful side dish with just a few ingredients.

Ingredients

1 large green cabbage

6 slices bacon, chopped

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces

½ cup chicken broth (or vegetable broth)

1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

Salt and black pepper, to taste

Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate, reserving about 1 tablespoon of the bacon drippings.

In the same skillet, cook the onion in the reserved drippings for 4–5 minutes, until softened.

Cut the cabbage into 6–8 wedges, keeping the core attached so the wedges hold together.

Arrange the cabbage wedges in the slow cooker.

Scatter the cooked onions over the cabbage.

Pour in the chicken broth.

Dot the cabbage with the butter and sprinkle with the garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Cover and cook:

Low: 5–6 hours, or
High: 2½–3 hours,

until the cabbage is tender but still holds its shape.

Sprinkle the crispy bacon over the top just before serving.
Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
Optional Add-Ins
Shredded Parmesan cheese
Red pepper flakes for a little heat
